7/5 Ganges

A lazy morning in Ganges – we put off heading into town from 10 o'clock to 11 o'clock, and then to noon, as none of us were done being lazy quite yet.  We finally did putt in our dinghies into town and stroll through a few shops and the Saturday Market.  The market was a collection of arts and crafts vendors, and was very busy.  Many nice ceramic, wood and even steel art objects were on display, along with a collection of jewelry and other items.  The shopping bug didn't bite, as we all came back to our boats empty-handed.  Well, not quite – Trav got a T-shirt at one of the local clothing stores.

We had dinner on board the Bar-T-Na, a combination of stir-fry and more crab.  It was all yummy.  We taste tested Trav's fine scotch and whiskey as well.

The evening provided our excitement.  As we were dining the wind picked up, and from the opposite direction from the night before.  We returned to the Potentate around 8 or so, and soon ran out another 25 feet of chain.  We ended up staying up until about 1 in the morning on anchor watch, as the wind howled with gusts up to 28 mph in our little anchorage.  We were prepared for dragging anchor, with all the instruments on at the bridge – and the engines were warmed up previously too for a quick start.  We let out even more chain before the evening was through, so have a lot to reel in before we get going.  The wind finally subsided around 3 or 4 a.m.  We'll be headed out towards Nanaimo soon, so I'll post this now while we still have this courtesy Internet connection.
